Omagh T48 Event Sees Runners Clock Up The Miles

The Omagh T48 event made its return which saw 24 runners clock up the miles over several days. Taking place at the Youth Sport Omagh track the challenge is Ireland’s first official 48-hour non-stop endurance race. Entrants completed as many loops of the track as possible over their choice of 12, 24 and 48 hour options.

The Omagh T48 attracted some of the countries top Ultra Runners including the likes of Amy Masner, Louise Smart, Nichola Duffy, and Ed McGroarty who have represented Ireland in the past.

Organiser and participant Jill McCann is no stranger to pushing her body and mind to its limits. The Tyrone native has previously taken on the gruelling Dublin to Belfast Return race, Last One Standing, along with a few hundred marathons and many other challenges.

The weather made for challenging conditions for the event however it didn’t stop some staggering miles being clocked up.

48-Hour Event

Amy Masner took 1st place in the 48 hour event completing a total of 183 miles/292 km. The runner up spot went to Nichola Duffy with 162 miles/260 km while 3rd was Susan Morrissey who managed 131 miles/210 km.

24-Hour Event

In the 24 hour event, Aoife O’Donnell emerged victorious with 80 miles/128 km. Second was Greg Cotter with 73 miles/117 km while 3rd went to Helen Wyse with 69 miles/111 km.

12-Hour Event

Arturas Siktorovas acquired 72 miles/115 km to be crowned as the winner with Alesksandra Dubinovicius in 2nd with 56 miles/89 km. Gerard Martin claimed 3rd with 55 miles/89 km.

There’s no doubt that this event will grow in popularity over the coming years. Many took to social media to thank the organisers and can’t wait to come back for 2024. If you can’t wait that long then keep an eye out on the T48 Facebook page and website for some upcoming 6 hour challenges.
